Art of Women Poster

I was asked to design a poster for an invitational exhibition showcasing the art of women in the local community, both AACC students and alumni. I started by creating a quilt-like pattern featuring homages to prominent female artists like Frida Kahlo, Yayoi Kusama, and Louise Bourgeois. I wanted to pay homage to quilting as a “women’s” art, while pairing it with a more minimal, modern poster. I originally wanted to avoid pink in the palette for stereotype reasons, but the small amounts of pink text work with the palette of the illustration and the yellow and blue secondary text.

I experimented with portrait-oriented posters, as well as an alternate composition that the exhibition director ended up not choosing.
